Pointing Your Domain to ServiceProMagic

Generic instructions that work with any domain registrar — 5 minutes

What is DNS?
DNS (Domain Name System) is like a phone book for the internet. When someone types your domain name, DNS tells their browser which server to connect to. Pointing your DNS to ServiceProMagic means visitors to your domain will see your website.
1

Log in to your domain registrar

  • Go to the website where you purchased your domain (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, etc.)
  • Sign in and find your domain name in your account
  • Look for "DNS", "DNS Management", "DNS Zone", or "Advanced DNS" settings
Not sure where you bought your domain? Check your email for a receipt or welcome email, or try running a WHOIS lookup at whois.domaintools.com.
2

Add a CNAME record for www

  • In your DNS settings, click "Add Record" or "Add New Record"
  • Set Type = CNAME
  • Set Name (or Host) = www
  • Set Value (or Points to / Target) = sites.servicepromagic.com
  • Set TTL to the lowest available value (300, 600, or "Automatic")
  • Save the record
TypeCNAME
Name / Hostwww
Value / Targetsites.servicepromagic.com
TTL300 (or lowest available)
This makes www.yourdomain.com point to your ServiceProMagic site.
3

Add a TXT verification record

  • Click "Add Record" again
  • Set Type = TXT
  • Set Name (or Host) = _servicepromagic
  • Set Value = your unique verification token from the ServiceProMagic dashboard
  • → Find it in Dashboard → Domain Settings → it starts with "servicepromagic-verify-"
  • Save the record
TypeTXT
Name / Host_servicepromagic
Value / Contentservicepromagic-verify-xxxxxxxx (from dashboard)
TTL300 (or lowest available)
This proves to us that you own the domain. Each domain gets a unique verification code.
4

Handle the root domain (yourdomain.com without www)

  • Most registrars offer one of these options for the root domain:
  • Option A — URL Redirect: Add a redirect from @ (root) to https://www.yourdomain.com (choose 301 Permanent if available)
  • Option B — ALIAS or ANAME record: Set @ to sites.servicepromagic.com (works like a CNAME)
  • Option C — A record: Set @ to 34.41.24.195 (our server IP — note IPs can change)
  • Recommended: Use URL Redirect if your registrar supports it
This ensures anyone visiting yourdomain.com (without www) still lands on your site.
5

Verify in your ServiceProMagic dashboard

  • Go to Dashboard → Domain Settings
  • Enter your domain name and click "Detect DNS"
  • Then click "Verify DNS"
  • DNS changes take 5–30 minutes to propagate (up to 48 hours in rare cases)
Use dnschecker.org to check if your CNAME for www is showing sites.servicepromagic.com globally.

Common Issues

"I don't see a CNAME option"
→ Some registrars call it "Alias", "CNAME Record", or "Canonical Name". If you only see A/AAAA records, look for an "Advanced" DNS mode.
"My registrar won't let me add a CNAME for @"
→ That's normal — many registrars don't support CNAME on root domains. Use a URL Redirect or ALIAS/ANAME record instead (see Step 4).
"It's been 2 hours and still not verified"
→ Check dnschecker.org and search your www domain, selecting "CNAME". If it shows sites.servicepromagic.com, the DNS is propagated — just re-run verification in the dashboard.
"I don't know what my registrar is"
→ Run a WHOIS lookup at whois.domaintools.com or lookup.icann.org to find out who manages your domain.
